The brief:
As principal contractor Sweet Projects after successfully completing the enabling works phase, then carried out the following stage 4 design services and the construction of the 16.8MW data centre (phase 1).
The following tasks were executed during this phase:
- Stage 4 and 5 Design (including Architectural, Structural, Civils, Acoustic, Fire Engineering, Landscape Design, Building Control, Bim Management, Breeam and Services Co-ordination)
- Construction of the Energy Centre, Ancillary Block, Services Gantry
- External works including, below ground services distribution, roads, footpaths, fencing, security gates and barriers
- Internal CAT A fit out of office spaces
- Co-ordination with client direct security, IT and AV Contractors
Key challenges:
- Having noise sensitive neighbours, both residential and commercial
- Maintaining a high level of security
- Very limited space for logistics, deliveries and parking
- Management of a number of client direct specialist contractors
- Requirements for Breeam Excellent
The solution:
- Engagement with Sustainability & Breeam consultants to ensure all targeted Breeam credits are achieved
- Regular planning and co-ordination meetings with client direct contractors
- Provision of off-site parking for staff and operatives, to help reduce congestion and provide additional lay down space
