Leading turnkey constructor Sweet Projects was announced as the 2023 UK Growth Business of the Year at last night’s Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards, following a remarkable period of development for the three-year old company.

Winning the award ahead of twelve growing UK businesses from different sectors, judges were impressed with the Bristol-based company’s culture, finances and focus on its people.

Sweet Projects received the award at The Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards ceremony evening, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The Awards have become one of the UK’s largest and most admired awards programmes, celebrating the best of the best of British business.

“To be successful and take home an award like this is amazing,” said Andy Heyes, MD of Sweet Projects, “We’re the only construction company to feature in the shortlist, and to see how far we’ve come in three short years is an outstanding credit to each and every person we work with.”

“It’s the culmination of hard work across the company, and this national recognition is great for the business, and just as great for our people – the most important part of our business.”

Sweet Projects had to prove a robust plan of activity and processes to the awards judging covering sustainable growth, development of people, and responsible business practices to deliver ongoing and future financial success and business impact.

In the past year, Sweet Projects has grown from 60 employees to more than 110 people across multiple UK sites, and with turnover doubling from £62m to £130m.

“Following the nomination earlier this year, we’ve continued to grow,” adds Andy, “Our whole team has been bolstered with a newfound determination after being recognised in such a way, and to be revealed as the best of the best in the Growth category is a brilliant achievement.”

“To show such outstanding growth and retain the highest quality of business practices – from recruitment, through our projects, to sustainability – is testament to the team’s hard work and dedication.”

This year, thousands of local businesses, SMEs and FTSE 100 companies across the UK applied to the prestigious British Business Excellence Awards, across eighteen categories.
