One of Sweet Projects latest sites has scored Excellent in a recent sustainability review for the internationally-recognised BREEAM accreditation.
The site in Hayes, Middlesex, was given the 75.2% Excellent BREEAM rating following assessment by independent inspectors, who looked into all aspects of sustainable building practices including whole life performance, health & social impact, circularity and resilience, biodiversity and reporting.
Every day, the team in Hayes is committed to maintaining high sustainability standards, ensuring ongoing dedication to improvement and care in their industry.
BREEAM is the best practice standard in sustainable building design, construction and operation, using a science-based suite of validations and certifications, and was established in 1990 by the BRE.
“I’m really pleased with the whole team, for pulling together to make this happen,” says Ian Dovey, Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Director at Sweet Projects, “In particular, a big thank you to Tammy Aziz, who has been instrumental in leading the delivery of this accreditation.”
“We have begun our Sustainability journey and am really pleased that we are already proven to be working to such a high level with this accreditation.”
Tammy, one of our project’s Senior Design Managers, was delighted that the accreditation has been achieved: “Excellent is the highest score we could achieve for this being a data centre, so we are really proud. This is one part of our sustainability story in Hayes, and across our projects, and we’re going to be taking all the learning forward with us”
“The inspectors reviewed all lifecycle stages so far, from planning and design, to construction, and covered elements from health and social data collection, management and verification, strategies that restore and protect biodiversity, and encouraging the use of onsite renewables, and carbon reduction.”
As a result, the project achieved all the credits targeted, scoring 75.2%, well above the BREEAM Excellent threshold of 70%. Union Park achieved full credits plus exemplary for reduction of CO2 emissions and power usage effectiveness, with exemplary credits also achieved in water consumption associated with the data centre cooling process, and rainwater collection. Sweet Projects also achieved full credits plus the exemplary credit for their low waste targets and high diversion of waste from landfill rates.
“Our projects are built around sustainability, and BREEAM is foundational to our progress,” added Ian, “Yet, we’re not content to sit on our laurels – we’ll be taking the advice from BRE on board, to further prove our sustainability credentials and will be continuing to make improvements across all our projects, now and in the future.”
The well-renowned BRE, the profit-for-purpose organisation behind BREEAM, has been making an impact by raising standards of the built environment for more than 100 years, and Sweet Projects is proud to be using the levels of accreditation.
